The Prosperity Foundation Announces Resignation of Executive Director Orsella Hughes, Launches National CEO Search

NEW HAVEN, CT (January 21, 2025) – The Prosperity Foundation (TPF) announced the resignation of its first Executive Director, Orsella R. Hughes, and the launch of a national CEO search to continue the foundation’s strategic initiatives.

After nearly ten years of service, Hughes’ transition comes at a pivotal time for the organization as it cements its ongoing work on education, healthcare access, or economic mobility in the year ahead.

“We are deeply grateful for Orsella’s vision and dedication,” said Howard K. Hill, Founder and Board Chair of The Prosperity Foundation. “Her leadership has laid a strong foundation for the organization, and we are committed to honoring her legacy by continuing to build upon the incredible work she started.”

Since its inception, The Prosperity Foundation has been dedicated to empowering Connecticut’s Black communities through equity, opportunity, and transformation. Under Orsella’s decade-long leadership, the organization has grown into a cornerstone for addressing disparities in health, education, and economic mobility.

“During my time, we have made significant strides in advancing our mission to invest in Connecticut’s Black communities, addressing disparities in health, education, and economic opportunity,” said Hughes in a letter to TPF supporters. “From empowering grassroots organizations to amplifying Black-led solutions, the impact of our collective efforts has been profound and far-reaching. When I began this journey, I could not have imagined how far we would come. What started as a vision to create a foundation rooted in equity, empowerment, and opportunity has grown into a thriving organization that has touched countless lives.
Looking ahead, I am confident that The Prosperity Foundation will continue to thrive under new leadership.”

The Board of Directors has already begun the process of identifying a new CEO to lead The Prosperity Foundation into its next chapter. The search process will be thorough, transparent, and inclusive, with updates provided to supporters and stakeholders throughout the transition.

To celebrate Hughes’ contributions, TPF will host a series of community events in the coming months, offering partners and supporters opportunities to honor her impact and vision. Details about these events will be shared through TPF’s newsletter and social media channels.

“This transition marks an exciting new phase for The Prosperity Foundation,” said Hill. “We remain committed to our mission and look forward to building a legacy of empowerment, equity, and prosperity for generations to come.”
