His Scruples, “It’s Christmas Dr. Joe” an animated classic film special will debut this holiday season on TubiTV.
Hartford, CT – (December) – Most people are relaxing or watching a lot of television while having to stay home during this COVID 19 pandemic. Hartford, CT based nationally recognized African American creative (writer, cartoonist, teaching artist, producer) Joe Young is busier than ever meeting the need for creative content during the COVID 19 pandemic. He is creating and releasing digital content for streaming services and social media platforms. He has created independent narrative full length films, short animations, and written books.
Joe Young’s holiday classic animated special, will air on TubiTV this holiday season. Taken from his Scruples, comic property, and described by many as an “Urban Peanuts” titled, “It’s Christmas, Dr. Joe”, features this lovable young black boy, who all the neighborhood kids affectionately call, Dr. Joe. This film features a cast of multiethnic kids, including his sweet little sister, Mimi, who is wheelchair bound. Their search for the real meaning of Christmas, makes this a winning holiday classic viewing for children of all ages. Joe has updated the classic that was created in 2004 that aired nationally on the Black Family Channel and Fox Network Affiliate TV stations.
Joe works with talented Hollywood actors such as 70’s actress BernNadette Stanis, who played Thelma in Good Times. “I look forward to working with Joe and his team to make good multicultural content,” stated Ms. Stanis. Joe’s independent movie Diamond Ruff (based on his nationally distributed book, Diamond Ruff), features rapper/actor Fredro Starr, actress Felicia “Snoop” Pearson (HBO’s The Wire), and award winning singer Freddie Jackson. The Diamond Ruff movie is currently streaming worldwide on TubiTV.
He recently added Joe Young Literary Agency under his company Joe Young Entertainment to help emerging artists and writers of color get their work distributed to the masses. One of the creatives he is currently represents is author Robenia McKinley’s “The Weaverbirds”, which is a graphic novel, projected to become an animated property. She says, “It’s both exciting and rewarding to have Joe as my agent and mentor in launching this project. It never would have gotten off the ground without his support and guidance.”
Much of Joe’s work is being distributed by Trial Fire X with clients that include Lifetime, Netflix, Hulu Amazon Prime, etc. Trae Dungy, President of Trial Fire X says, “Working with Joe has been a consistent pleasure, his business acumen is out of this world and his work ethic is second to none. Joe’s Young’s Condensed Bio – A native of Connecticut, he is a cartoonist, filmmaker, producer and writer. He is the Chair of the City of Hartford Film and Media Commission. He created the Scruples Comic characters and is the writer and executive producer of the internationally distributed, Diamond Ruff Book and Movie. He is currently the President of Joe Young Entertainment headquartered in Hartford, CT. He is a Guinness World Record Holder for creating the World’s Longest Comic Strip. In 1999, he received the prestigious Daily Point of Light Award from the White House for volunteering his time in bringing the Arts to disadvantaged children.
